USA Peace Corps South Africa

School and Community Resource Project – Mpumalanga South Africa, Mashashila Circuit – Mswati, Steynsdorp and Hambanatsi Primary with Ngilandi Secondary schools

  • Computer system administration across 3 schools and technical advisor for school board computer management. Teacher training in science, mathematics and computer literacy with Outcomes Based Education (OBE) methods, teaching science math and HIV-education, administrative school work. Project design and management with Home-Based-Care groups for HIV/AIDS including community events and large-scale farm project. Training language teachers for PCSA and training of new volunteers.
  • Publication of  the Grammar Manual of SiSwati – a training manual published by Peace Corps South Africa and currently used as the primary teaching material for new volunteers learning the siSwati language. With this manual and the redesign of the Peace Corps language training by the language committee (started by myself, Erica Layer and Brad Gibbs) we achieved the highest fluency scores in the histroy of Peace Corps South Africa during pre-service training.

Center for Quantitative Biological Simulation

  • Spatially Realistic Monte Carlo Simulations of Oscillating Biochemical Networks – published internally with the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center 2006
  • Writing simulation experiments with the Center for Quantitative Biological Simulation (CQBS) using MCell and DReAMM, debugging and error testing of code, creation of documentation and tutorials for education of the developed software (MCell and DReAMM), training of new undergraduate researchers.
